New Years Eve Outfit

I bet most of you have tons of dresses in the closet that are rarely worn. In stead of buying a new dress for the New Years Eve party why not go for some new accessories in stead? A dress you can wear on special occations, but nice accessories can dress up any outfit at any time. The little black dress is a perfect example of a dress you can pump up with some new accessories. My suggestion is to put a little extra money in new accessories rather than a new dress, and here are some ideas, all from Anthropologie.

Socks + Pumps = <3

Wearing socks in pumps has been around for a while and I really love this look. Luckily the socks were seen in many spring collections as well. Now when it’s cold outside they’re perfect when dressing up; you can wear those heels a little longer without freezing to death. Here they are from Kenzo and Westwood:

For something a little less ordinary, make yourself something like these from McQueen’s fall collection. All you need is a pair of nice socks and yarn in the same colors. The pom-poms will just take a second to make.

Marc Jacobs Wristlet

Looking for the perfect holiday handbag? Here it is:

It’s only $60.90 (on sale) at Saks Fifth Avenue, also avaliable in a lovely blue.

Small update:

I came across these Marc Jacobs flats on sale at eLuxury and I just had to share this with you as well. Something to ask Santa for, cause they’re still $139 (down from $210).

To Ugg or not to Ugg

There is a lot of talk about the Ugg boots, some love them and some hate them. I have never been a fan and never owned a pair. If your excuse is to keep your feet warm you can do it the real way. Nesnalobben is a shoe from my tiny little hometown Nesna in Northern Norway. They’re made of wool and have been worn for decades. They are the best out there for cold days and cold feet. They have even been seen in fashion shows and fashion spreads. I’ll admit they’re not any smaller or less lumpy than the Ugg boots, but they do keep your feet warm.

“Letters we have recieved from users of wool felt boots in Alaska insist that Nesnalobben is the warmest foot wear for outdoor activities in the extremely cold climate.”

I think they’re kind of cute, but that might be because I grew up with them.

Gorgeous Gaiters

A beautiful way to dress up, protect your shoes and keep your feet warm is to wear gaiters. To give you an idea of just how pretty they can look, here they are from Kenzo and Bora Aksu:

H&M had something like this last year, so hopefully they’ll pick up on the trend this year as well. If not you can always find them secondhand, and Ebay is a good source for that. Type in gaiters or spats and you’ll find not many, but some, to choose from. Be aware when shopping on Ebay that it’s often a good idea to search for misspelled items. Gaiters can be gaitors for example. The misspelled items usually end up costing less since not as many come across them. (I figured this out since my English isn’t perfect and I ended up getting a huge hand crocheted bedspread with pillow cases for $10!)

If you just want the look and not real gaiters check out these at Anthropologie:

Flea Hunting

Most of my weekends are dedicated to flea hunting. This time I didn’t end up with anything that really had my heart beating like hell. But I found these cute t-strap shoes that I payed $2 for that looks like never has been worn. I have several pairs of shoes in this style so I don’t really need them, but for that price I’ll buy anything…

This red little clutch I adore, but I ended up paying a lot more than I hoped for. That’s why the shortness of breath hasn’t kicked in like it should. It has three pockets, all with this really funky lining.

I also bought some yarn and some knitting needles, and I’m planning to knit a chain mail scarf I saw at Girlshop. I’m so busy these days that I have to wait and see if the project succeeds.

At last I found a jacket that belongs to a pair of pants I bought years ago. I never could afford the jacket then, but now I payed $3 for it. I don’t love is at much as I used to anymore, but hey, this must have been faith! I payed about the same for this black chinese dress also. I have wanted one of them since I was a kid, and even though I’m not the biggest fan of them at the moment, it felt kind of nice to finally have one.

All and all I made no super bargains… Or did I? I think I’m a little numb right now. Too busy to enjoy this the way I should. Anyway, I can’t wait for next weekend! Hope I find something really neat then.
