Easy Made Cape

I’ve wanted a cape for so long, but as with everything else that becomes trendy, it suddenly costs alot. Not even H&M has a cheap version. So I decided to try making my own out of the fabrics I bought the other day. I would have chosen a thicker black fabric, but at least this one is wool so it will keep me somewhat warm. I must say I am pretty pleased with how it turned out, allthough it’s just fastened with a safety pin at the moment as I didn’t have anything else.

The pattern was easy and I found alot of help in this Halloween outfit tutorial (don’t let the pictures scare you, it works for any sort of cape). I followed the steps and it was suprisingly easy. I am far from an experienced sewer, so I’m guessing all guy guys will be able to make this quite easy. I haven’t lined it, that’s a little too complicated for me, but that will probably be a good idea for those of you who knows how.

I am planning to make a simple knee length pencil skirt to go with it. I got a ton of this fabric!

  1. It looks great! I would have never thought that it didn’t come out of a store. Good job! The outfit that you put it together with is great too!

  3. Thanks guys! And Suzy, this is actually the first item I’ve ever managed to sew so well that looks at least a little professional. The collar even looks fine. Must be the easy pattern. :)

  4. I love the length, and the plaid reminds me of that short cape that Sherlock Holmes is always depicted wearing. Well done!

  5. Yes, it is a little Sherlock Holmes-ish, I have to something about that… I’m thinking to add a nice ribbon to tie it with, or I can dye it black. What do you guys think?

  6. No, I love the plaid! This may sound silly, but what about little faux-mink pompoms on the ends of narrow ties? Kind of like a ice-skating costumes from way back when … but I also like the idea of a luscious ribbon tie, satiny or velvety.

  7. The pom-poms are a good idea and will absolutely take some of that Sherlock Holmes-flare away. Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out. :)
